START – Short Term Assessment of Risk and Treatability

(START) is a 2-day course.

About the training

START is brief clinical risk assessment looking at 7 areas of risk whilst considering 20 factors related to service users. It is intended for use in the assessment of short – medium term risks (days / weeks / months)

Course Aims:

The aim of the START – Short Term Assessment of Risk and Treatability course is to assist practitioners working in forensic mental health and criminal justice settings to acquire skills in the assessment of short term risk using the START risk assessment tool.

Target Group:

The training is for psychologists, nurses, support workers, social workers, probation officers, police, occupational therapists and other professionals working in the field.

Course materials: The course includes all of the training materials. Case studies are used to score the START.  You will need to purchase the manuals for the START.  A certificate is provided to candidates who complete the course successfully and the training  contributes to your continuing professional development (CPD).

About the trainers

The trainers are Dr Sonia Borghino and Ms Gill Merrill HCPC Registered and BPS Chartered Forensic Psychologists who are highly experienced Forensic Psychologists in both the use of various assessment tools and in providing training of them.
